WILBUR CHAPEL CEMETERY

The Wilbur Cemetery was started long before there was a church at the location.  According to some sources, Bowers Davis and wife Nancy and James Weekley and wife Isabelle bought a tract of land at Wilbur in 1861 and gave it to the U.B. Church to be used as a burial plot.  In 1871 these same four purchased another tract which they added to the first and deeded also to the U.B. Church. There are several graves that predate the 1861 time and all appear to bear the name Davis.  This may indicate that this was originally a family burial ground.  The two sections of the cemetery are locally referred to as the "Old Cemetery" and the "New Cemetery."    There are several hundred graves in the two cemeteries.
